Description
  • Location: Gallatin, Tennessee, USA

One of the earliest known figurative sculptures is the Venus of Willendorf, which I consider the ‘Mother’ of all anthropomorphic works. She is a faceless stone figure with a seed-pod-like texture on the top of her head. She was the first thing I thought of when I heard the word ‘Origins’. I've made facsimiles of her before, so I decided to do a jointed cloth ‘FloraFae’ version of her in my ‘crazy-quilted’ style. She is constructed from one of the earliest versions of my articulated cloth body patterns, and her hands are sculpted from wired nylon stockings.

Dimensions: 11" tall seated; 15.5" tall standing
List of materials: Vintage and contemporary fabrics, thread, polyester fiber-fill, buttons, wire, glass seed beads, nylon stocking, painted (hands), paper and fabric flowers (modified)
